About me...
I’m Craig Lawton, and from my East Sussex workshop I design and build acoustics, electrics, bass guitars and ukuleles.
Along with a small range of stock models I offer a complete custom build service, maintenance and repairs.
A brief history...
As a carpenter’s son I was often surrounded by timber and tools. This naturally led to an interest in woodwork followed by a genuine appreciation for timber itself and so, from an early age I learned about the properties of various woods, how to work them and the tools needed for the job.

Making music first came in the form of piano lessons which at the age of eleven didn’t hold much appeal however, jump a few years ahead and along came my first acoustic guitar. This changed everything.
For many years guitars and woodwork continued as separate activities until - after a long and fruitless day guitar shopping - I hit upon the idea of building my own.
With a few electric guitar builds under my belt I joined an acoustic guitar making course at a south London college.
Armed with a tool bag and a stack of tonewood, my obsession with the craft began.
Present day...
I continue to build guitars with meticulous attention to detail and a ceaseless appreciation for some of the most beautiful woods our planet has to offer.

Wood holds properties like no other material. Working it offers a great deal of satisfaction and ultimately the chance of giving a second life to one of our most precious resources. What better way to do it than in the form of a musical instrument.
